Yampa Valley Bank is a locally owned community bank serving the residents of Routt and Moffat counties. Our singular commitment to community banking is reflected in the honest and friendly service provided to all our visitors. It’s what we call Genuine Hometown Banking, and it’s truly who we are.

The organizing members of Yampa Valley Bank consisted of local business owners and community leaders seeking an alternative to the detached practices of the large corporate banks. Initially founded as First National Bank of Steamboat Springs, the group received its charter and opened its doors for business in March 2000 as the only locally owned bank. Five years later the first branch location was opened in Craig, Colo., operating as Moffat County National Bank.

A Craig investor group facilitated the expansion and serves today as an advisory board. First National Bank of Steamboat Springs converted from a national bank to a state-chartered bank in August 2008 and brought both locations under one name—Yampa Valley Bank. Most of the original organizing members remain owners/directors, fulfilling the initial intent to “… put the community first and strive to exceed our customers’ expectations of a locally owned bank …” as stated in our mission statement.

Today, Yampa Valley Bank is the leading lender in Routt and Moffat counties. Its oversight is provided by a 15-member board of directors in Steamboat working in tandem with a 12-member advisory board in Craig with a unique dedication to the people and businesses of our valley. In total there are 72 investors with ties directly to the Yampa Valley who afford it a unique and unmatched knowledge of the area and its residents.

Yampa Valley Bank has gained market share rapidly and consistently since March 2000, validating our belief that bank customers appreciate local decision-making and true local investment in areas ranging from the United Way to the Presenting Sponsor of the largest winter fireworks show in North America.

Yampa Valley Bank is committed to our customers and our communities. Employees, directors and investors volunteer in and lead a wide variety of community activities and nonprofit groups benefiting the entire valley. Our officers and staff are involved in leadership roles in more than 40 community nonprofit organizations, boards and events, and our bank has received a Business and Individual Philanthropist of the Year award five times based on board and bank recipients.

Three qualities separate Yampa Valley Bank from our eight banking competitors: We’re smart, nimble and local. We have an incredibly bright and responsive banking team and board that have the skill and authority to customize products to meet our customers’ banking needs. Just as important, decisions are made in a timely fashion and reflect our local ownership and culture.

These traits have been affirmed by Yampa Valley Bank’s six consecutive Best Bank in Moffat County awards and three consecutive Best of the Boat awards for Yampa Valley Bank Steamboat. Our bank also was identified as one of the top 100 Community Banks in the United States in 2015.
