Glen Jammaron on community banking in Glenwood Springs, Colo.

IB: Where is the Alpine Bank? What is your marketplace known for?

Jammaron: We are headquartered in Glenwood Springs, Colo., but we have 36 locations spread across the Western Slope of Colorado. Oil and natural gas are major industries, as well as agriculture. Wine production is an emerging industry here.

IB: Tell us about Alpine Bank’s community investment efforts.

Jammaron: Our Loyalty Check Card program is our most successful community investment program. Each time a customer uses his or her check card, the bank donates 10 cents per transaction to organizations that support our communities. In the 16 years since the program’s inception, we’ve donated more than $5 million to a number of nonprofit organizations across western and southwestern Colorado.

Pays for A’s is our other big program. Basically, area students can bring their report cards into any Alpine Bank location and be entered into a quarterly drawing. We select five winners each quarter, and they receive $10 for every “A” and $5 for every “B.” It’s a fun and easy way to reward kids for doing well in school.

IB: What’s planned for 2014?

Jammaron: The next big initiative for us is expanding our market area and our footprint. We’ll be opening a brand new location on the Front Range in downtown Denver late first quarter. The expansion opportunities on the western side of the state are fairly limited, so if we are to continue to grow and remain independent we need to be in this market.

We’re also planning an expansion of our Loyalty Check Card program. We expect to partner with a number of area nonprofits to allow customers to support specific organizations of their choice.

IB: What’s something unique you’d like people to know about Alpine Bank?

Jammaron: Alpine Bank has its ISO 14001 Certification. The certification basically means that we have an effective environmental policy in place and that we are constantly working to improve our environmental practices and working to meet the highest environmental management standard throughout our bank. We believe that when we practice good environmental stewardship, which also makes good business sense, it really is sustainable.

We have an incredibly committed group of employees who are always looking for opportunities to improve.
