Online portals may help community banks communicate with their directors more efficiently and less expensively

When Summit State Bank in Santa, Rosa, Calif., holds its board meeting next month, you won't see any traditional, paper-based board books at the table. That's because last year the $383 million-asset community bank began using an online portal to distribute information to its 13 directors prior to its board meetings.
